16 AT THE CENTER OF UTAH INDUSTRY E st ablished in 1938, the p r i v a t e l y - ow n e d C a t e Equipment Company has been serving the Utah mining community for nearly 80 years. For these years, Cate Equipment continues to evolve and change. Even with the changes, mining has been a core part of the business since the beginning. The indust r y ’s need for greater specialization inspired the company to form three distinct divisions in the 1950s. The Cate Equipment (Rental) division continues to provide new, used and rental equipment for highway construction, utility work, oilfield and pipeline work. The Cate Industrial Air division specializes in industrial air solutions from air compressor and vacuum pumps to desiccant and refrigerated dryer rentals, as well as service, parts, and custom fabrication. They provide stationary air for many of the mining processing facilities throughout the region. This separation allowed Cate’s third division, Cate Drilling Solutions, to focus on Atlas Copco drilling products, providing close customer support from its four branches: Salt Lake City, Utah; Elko, Nevada; Pocatello, Idaho; and Gillette, Wyoming. At the base of this change is customer demands, the evolution of equipment and new technology. Rental/Leasing Fleet/Financing Cate Drilling Solutions is the only Western U.S. dealership that offers a diverse fleet of both large rotary drills, midrange drills and smaller top hammer surface crawler rigs for short-term or long-term rental or lease. Cate’s fleet is one of the world’s largest, consisting of large blasthole rigs to small top hammer rigs. Matt Willeford, General Manager Cate Drilling Solutions said, “Being able to rent from our fleet means mines can increase drilling production while they wait on capital approval.” Models range from blasthole drills rigs used in mining and quarrying to computer-optimized Atlas Copco SERVING UTAH MINERS CATE DRI LL ING SOLUTIONS
