The metals to make the cars and the planes, and the fuel for their engines, are mining products. • For those who turn on the television after dinner to watch a football game, it wouldn’t be possible to watch the game without a television, laptop, computer, tablet, or smart phone — all of which are mining products. Mining is an essential part of celebrating Thanksgiving. Take all the mining products away, and we wouldn’t have the Thanksgiving celebration we have come to love. We’d be living a far more primitive existence with a lot less food and a reduced capacity to gather together for the celebration. People tend to ignore the connection between mining and the comforts of home and civilization, but they are inextricably linked. Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without mining. So this year, while expressing gratitude for your family, friends, and good food, maybe take a moment to appreciate the impact mining has on your life as well.
