21 MINING FOCUS encourage the entire Brahma team to put safety first. Safety is about developing the individual and enabling them to confidently practice safety on a job site. The principles that guide Beyond Zero have led to over thirty safety recognition awards since 2010, Including 5 consecutive Mine Safety awards from the Utah Mining Association for outstanding safety performance. “Our safety numbers and results speak for themselves,” remarks Jon. The efforts and resources and people that make Beyond Zero a reality represent the heart of Brahma culture, and this culture began and flourished in mining. Beyond Zero couldn’t be possible without many well-executed safety programs. From weekly topics on safety disseminated company-wide to assessment and acknowledgement at the field level, Brahma turns effective safety programs into a rooted culture. Wickizer states, “we believe true safety is achieved when all involved in the effort participates proactively.” Brahma has done it. They have created a true safety culture that reaches Beyond Zero where every member of the team actively participates in safety daily. Appealing to theKinesthetic Learner Pre-Create – Risk Assessment Renderings Over t he past year Brahma has furthered their safety practices by pre-creating models of job sites before workers step into the field. For complex projects they use these job site models as part of the safety orientation to assess the risks in the environment and to mitigate those risks before they ever step onto the site. “People in our industry are visual people, visual learners, we enjoy building things with our hands and we like to see things. We appeal to this kinesthetic learning style through modeling,” says Wickizer. Complex, safety sensitive projects are produced through a model. The jobs tasks are pre-created before workers go into the field and execute them. This specific model appeals to people that are physical, mechanical, kinesthetic learners, and has proven to be very successful in sensitive work sites such as MSHA regulated mine sites. Rapid Growth To what do you attribute your success? David Miller, CEO and Chairman of the Board for Brahma Group attributes Brahmas rapid growth to people. “We’re in the people business,” Miller says, “and we value the people we interact with above all. We value our customers, we value our employees, we value our vendors, and we value the communities that we live in. We want to be good stewards of the resources we’ve been given and we want to help the communities we live in too.” Brahma’s business model encourages an entrepreneurial spirit. It encourages people to own their piece of a project and to follow up on it. From a rich heritage, Brahma has grown and emerged as a leader in the mining industry. Much of the success is attributed to a track record of solid and lasting relationships with clients. “Brahma’s quality and consistency of work speaks for itself,” says Miller, “and we’re honored that our clients continue to offer referral after referral, contributing to our current and future growth.” Brahma plans to continue to spread its operations throughout the United States.
