19 MINING FOCUS Take a moment to remember that buiding airplanes and constructing the infrastructure needed to support safe air travel require a strong domestic mining industry. Air cargo travel by companies such as FedEx and UPS also makes up a large portion of daily flights in the U.S. The air travel industry is a vital par t of our lifest yle and our economy, helping families and businesses connect in ways that were unimaginable just a hundred years ago. And that means the U.S. will continue to invest in airplanes … airplanes that use a great deal of mined materials, including metals to give them the strength to carry passenger s safely.
